Delhi Metro Fare Chart 2026
Delhi Metro uses a distance-based fare system. The fare is calculated based on the shortest route between your origin and destination stations. These fares were last revised on 25 August 2025 — the first hike in eight years.[↗]
| Distance | Token Fare | Smart Card (Peak) | Smart Card (Off-Peak) | Max Savings | |----------|-----------|-------------------|----------------------|-------------| | Up to 2 km | ₹11 | ₹10 | ₹9 | ₹2 | | 2–5 km | ₹21 | ₹19 | ₹17 | ₹4 | | 5–12 km | ₹32 | ₹29 | ₹26 | ₹6 | | 12–21 km | ₹43 | ₹39 | ₹35 | ₹8 | | 21–32 km | ₹54 | ₹49 | ₹44 | ₹10 | | Above 32 km | ₹64 | ₹58 | ₹52 | ₹12 |
Off-peak hours: Before 8:00 AM, 12:00 PM–5:00 PM, and after 9:00 PM.
How Delhi Metro Fare is Calculated
The fare system works on the shortest path principle:
- When you tap in at the origin station, the system records your entry
- When you tap out at the destination, it calculates the shortest distance
- The fare slab is applied based on that distance
- If you're using a smart card, a 10% discount is automatically applied (20% during off-peak)
This means even if you take a longer route (via more interchanges), you'll pay the same fare as the shortest route.
Airport Express Line Fares
The Airport Express Line has its own fare structure, separate from the regular metro:
| From | To | Fare | |------|-----|------| | New Delhi | Shivaji Stadium | ₹20 | | New Delhi | Dhaula Kuan | ₹30 | | New Delhi | IGI Airport (T3) | ₹60 | | New Delhi | Dwarka Sector 21 | ₹60 |

How to Save Money on Delhi Metro
1. Get a Smart Card — Save 10-20% on Every Trip
The simplest way to save. A Delhi Metro smart card costs ₹150 (₹50 refundable deposit + ₹100 balance) and saves 10% on every journey — 20% during off-peak hours. For daily commuters, that's ₹1,500–3,000+ saved per year.
2. Travel During Off-Peak Hours
Smart card and MJQRT users get an extra 10% discount during off-peak hours (before 8 AM, 12 PM–5 PM, after 9 PM). That's a total of 20% off the token fare. Plan your travel around these windows when possible.
Check our metro timings guide for detailed schedules.
3. Use the MJQRT Digital Ticket
Don't want to carry a card? Use the Multiple Journey QR Ticket via the DMRC Momentum 2.0 app. Same discounts as the smart card, plus the convenience of scanning a QR code from your phone.[↗]
4. Plan Multi-Line Routes Wisely
If your journey involves interchanges, use our Route Finder to find the shortest path — because the fare is based on distance, not the number of lines or interchanges.
5. Use the Metro + Bus Combo
Your Delhi Metro smart card also works on DTC and cluster buses. For some routes, taking the metro partway and a bus for the last mile can be cheaper than an end-to-end metro ride. Women can get free bus travel with the new Pink Saheli NCMC card launched in March 2026.[↗]
Fare Rules You Should Know
- Time limits apply — You must exit within a set time based on your journey distance (65–180 minutes). Exceeding the limit incurs a ₹10/hour penalty, up to ₹50 max
- If you lose your token — You're charged a ₹50 penalty + ₹64 maximum fare = ₹114 total. This is a common question — and a strong reason to use a smart card instead
- Children under 3 years ride free on Delhi Metro. Children above 3 need a ticket
- No fare for interchanges — Switching lines at interchange stations doesn't cost extra. The total fare is calculated only on the shortest distance between entry and exit
- Luggage is free — Standard luggage is allowed at no extra charge on all lines including Airport Express
Use Our Route Finder for Exact Fares
